In order to protect the public, the Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners must evaluate the character and fitness of applicants for admission to practice law. To this end, an inquiry into past or present conduct or behavior is necessary to ensure an applicant’s ability to practice law in a competent, ethical, and professional manner.

The burden for demonstrating character and fitness to practice law rests with the applicant. The Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners may recommend denial for admission if an applicant failed to recognize or seek appropriate help for problematic conduct or their behavior currently impairs their ability to practice law. The Oregon State Board of Bar Examiners looks favorably upon applicants who have demonstrated accountability and maturity in addressing personal issues.

Lack of complete candor in your responses to questions in this application is a basis for denial of admission to the bar.
